People line up in Lilongwe North West Constituency to cast their vote
As an accredited organization to do voter education in Malawi NICE, took its observation role in By-elections that took place in Karonga Central constituency, Lilongwe North West Constituency and Chikwawa Makhwira North Ward . NICE through its many strategies ensured it mobilized people in these areas to exercise their right to vote for leaders.
Due to COVID 19 NICE used approaches that were very effective in making sure that people in the tree districts are aware of the by election and also that they take part in the elections. Some of the most effective approaches used were loud hailing, volunteer structure, the religious community, traditional leaders, distribution of leaflets, radios and many other approaches to disseminated messages to the potential voters while observing covid19 preventive measures.
According NICE ‘s Press Release, voting wenton peacefully and orderly in all the polling centres of Lilongwe North constituency, Makhwira south ward and Karonga North constituency, which allowed voters to start voting by 6:00 am.
In the media release NICE commends Malawi Electoral Commission MEEC for making sure that the by-elections are conducted thereby giving a right to people choose their representatives after the seats fell vacant, and also to make sure that there is enough security and staff.
